About

The Research Center for Metallurgy and Materials, at the Indonesian Institute of Sciences (P2M2 LIPI) is one of the leading research centers in the field of metallurgy. Research center metallurgy, Indonesian institute of sciences has conducted for many years various applied and basic research project on the design and production of ferrous and non ferrous materials. P2M2 LIPI consists of four research divisions:

  • Extractive metallurgy: concerned with the various physical and chemical processes that are part of the overall process of producing metallic materials and alloys;
  • Physical metallurgy and manufacturing technology: deals with the physical properties and structure of metals and alloys. The division conducts research on solid phase transformation, surface engineering of metallic materials, grain refinement of cast metals, metal forming and joining technology.
  • Corrosion and material conservation:  concerned with fundamental research in electrochemistry, corrosion inhibition, corrosion protection in geothermal, medical and transportation infrastructure.
  • Metallurgical engineering

Vision

The vision of P2MM– LIPI is directly related to the vision of LIPI, as the parent organization:

“To become a world-class research institution that encourages the realization of the nation’s independence and competitiveness in the field of metallurgy and materials for a just, prosperous, intelligent, creative, integrative and dynamic life of the nation”

Mission

  • To create inventions in the metallurgical and material science sector that can encourage innovation in order to increase the independence and competitiveness of the Indonesian economy;
  • To increase international recognition in the field of metallurgy and materials science;
  • To increase institutional strengthening, dissemination of research results and technology services in the metallurgical and material fields.
