The organization ” Union pour la Promotion/Protection, la Défense des Droits Humains et de l’Environnement en sigle UPDDHE/GL ” (Union for the Promotion/Protection, the Defense of Human Rights and the Environment) whose head office is located on N°01O, Avenue Walikale, Quartier Les Volcans, Commune de Goma, city of Goma, North-Kivu in the East of the Democratic Republic of Congo, is a non-profit association under Congolese law concerned with the promotion/protection, the defense of the rights of the people and of the environment. Its motto is “Justice, Work and Development”. It started its activities in Goma, province of North Kivu in the Democratic Republic of Congo since April 2010 with the aim of covering the whole Great Lakes Region with representative offices in the provinces of North Kivu, South Kivu, Ituri, Tanganyika and Kinshasa. UPDDHE/GL is a key actor in the search for solutions to the various problems affecting communities in vulnerable situations in the Democratic Republic of Congo, putting its beneficiaries at the center of all activities without leaving anyone behind, and militating for the improvement of their living conditions in a climate of peace and a prosperous environment, It works for the improvement of their living conditions in a climate of peace, a prosperous environment, the respect of their rights in humanitarian emergencies, the peacebulding and peaceful resolution of conflicts, the promotion of women’s leadership, the fight against all forms of abuse and sexual exploitation of women and girls, the fight against poverty, food insecurity, bad governance, climate change and militating for the effective implementation of the humanitarian localization. It works with all social strata, notably youth, women and men, as well as with political and administrative authorities and local leaders in order to maximize the chances of achieving its objectives for the benefit of the deficit populations living in its intervention zones. To achieve this objective, UPDDHE/GL combines different activities: sustainable development programs based on human rights, environmental restoration, resilience, awareness, outreach and mobilization campaigns, advocacy and assistance to humanitarian emergencies in case of natural disasters and conflicts.

UPDDHE/GL’S VISION The UPDDHE/GL aspires to a society where people enjoy their dignity in a healthy and peaceful socio-economic, cultural and ecological environment in order to contribute to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). THE MISSION OF UPDDHE/GL To mobilize local communities, national and international actors in the promotion and defense of human rights, the consolidation of peace towards a sustainable social cohesion in the Democratic Republic of Congo; Contribute to the promotion/protection of the environment in order to maintain its balance in a sustainable manner; Fight against poverty, promote leadership and empowerment of women/youth for an effective and sustainable resilience in the respect of humanitarian principles. AREAS OF INTERVENTION In order to converge towards its vision and achieve its mission, UPDDHE/GL has deemed it appropriate to inscribe its interventions in the main areas of life, namely 1.
