A Pérez-Guerrero Trust Fund for South-South Cooperation (PGTF) project brought together researchers, institutions, and producers from Argentina, Chile, and South Africa to exchange knowledge and experiences on using solar energy for vineyard irrigation to increase economic and ecological efficiency.
“International collaboration is important because at the end, despite some different characteristics, the problems are similar and it is important to be able to share them and address them,” says Pilar Gil Montenegro, of the Catholic University of Chile.
Through South-South knowledge sharing, the PGTF project contributed to a deeper understanding of local contexts and concrete solar energy solutions for the vineyards. The partner institutions from the three countries include: the National Institute of Agricultural Technology and the Mendoza Agricultural Experimental Station in Argentina; the University of Chile and the Catholic University of Chile; and the Agricultural Research Council, and the Stellenbosch University of South Africa.
“This project would not have been possible if it were not for the work of technicians, institutions, and the producers themselves collaborating and sharing experiences among the three countries,” says Ganbriela Acosta of the National Institution of Agricultural Technology of Argentina.
