UNOSSC and Digital Cooperation Organization Partner to Advance Digital Capacity Building

The Digital Cooperation Organization (DCO) marked a significant milestone at its fourth annual General Assembly in Jordan this February. The Assembly unveiled initiatives to bridge the global digital divide and endorsed the DCO’s 2025-2028 Agenda, setting a new course for digital inclusion and launching new digital cooperation initiatives. On the margins of the General Assembly, UNOSSC Director Dima Al-Khatib and DCO Secretary-General Deemah AlYahya formalized a new collaboration through a Statement of Intent, targeting digital inclusion, capacity-building, and innovation. “UNOSSC is committed to the Global Digital Compact,” Director Al-Khatib, emphasized during the signing. “Inclusive digital transformation and a ‘whole-of-society’ approach are critical drivers of progress towards the achievement of the SDGs and building resilience.” At the International Digital Cooperation Forum, which focused on ‘Financing for Digital Development in an Era of AI’, Director Al-Khatib outlined the partnership’s vision. She highlighted how UNOSSC and DCO would work together to advance digital prosperity through South-South and triangular cooperation, leveraging technology to accelerate progress toward the Sustainable Development Goals.     The UNOSSC-DCO collaboration spans several critical areas, such as:

• Advancing digital prosperity through South-South Cooperation and triangular cooperation.
• Leveraging digital technology to accelerate the achievement of the SDGs within the framework of the Global Digital Compact.
• Strengthening digital economy partnerships through South-South and triangular cooperation to promote inclusivity for sustainable development.

UNOSSC and DCO will pursue this collaboration in line with their respective mandates, focusing on areas where they can bring added value, including knowledge generation, knowledge sharing, innovation, testing new ideas, regional cooperation, and partnerships for digital transformation and inclusion. UNOSSC and DCO will utilize the existing platforms of both organizations, including UNOSSC’s South-South Galaxy and South-South and Triangular Cooperation Solutions Lab, to generate and disseminate new knowledge and good practices, broker new partnerships and support more evidence-based solutions for inclusive and whole-of-society digital transformation.” The United Nations Office for South-South Cooperation (UNOSSC) was established by the UN General Assembly in 1974 with a mandate to advocate for and coordinate South-South and triangular cooperation on a global and UN system-wide basis.
