IFAD – Islamic Development Bank Side Event at BAPA+40

    International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) and the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) are organizing a side event on “Leveraging South-South and Triangular Cooperation to support agricultural value-chain development”. IsDB and IFAD have a proven track record in designing projects and programmes that promote affordable and locally-relevant innovations in the agricultural sector, aimed at empowering smallholder farmers through the improvement of value chains. South-South and Triangular Cooperation (SSTC) is a powerful development cooperation modality that can be used to overcome some constraints faced by smallholder agricultural producers in improving value chains.

Leveraging South-South and Triangular Cooperation to support agricultural value-chain development

  The side-event will address the following issues:

1. Assessing ways in which SSTC contributes to creating an enabling environment to improve value chains and better connect farmers to domestic and international markers, thus contributing to rural transformation as an element of structural transformation.
2. Discussing the role of international organizations in supporting the facilitation of rural smallholders’ access to markets and value chains.
3. Understanding how the private sector can be supported through SSTC activities promoting business-to-business/community-to-community exchanges.
4. Evaluating the role of SSTC in facilitating the exchange of innovations and good practises in promoting value-chain development by sharing success stories coming from agricultural development projects which use SSTC as a means to improve value chains and market access.
