Finemind is non-profit organization that supports community mental health of the people of Agago in northern Uganda. Through a peer-to-peer support system that recruits, trains, and empowers community members – including clinical and non-clinical – Finemind provides people with what they need to recover from common mental health disorders.

Finemind offers systemic, scalable, and comprehensive solutions for global mental health by tapping into the power of community. We recruit, train, and empower non-professionals to provide people what they need to recover from common mental disorders via a range of treatments deployed in a modular healthcare model.

Mission:

As we strive for a more equitable world, our values act as roots. It can be easy to lose sight of what is important. As such, our pie in the sky vision warrants guideposts; our values are just that — linkages and omens to unite, to inspire, and to affect.

• Lean on each other: There is an old African proverb that says, “If you want to go quickly, go alone. If you want to go far, go together.” We’re convinced that working together is the only way to achieve long-term success. We cannot do it alone.
• Work towards change At the end of the day, why we do what do is to affect sustainable change that has the ability to impact many people deeply. We are determined to improve what no longer serves, erect lasting systems and processes, and build upon bright spots.
• Do it anyway: Believe in the work. There will be moments of apprehension. Although we may not always be in control of how or what we feel, we are responsible for the actions we take. Each step, however small, is significant.
• Lead with kindness: Practice self-compassion and offer love, generosity, and care when interacting with others. Leave your troubles at the door and offer complete and unbridled attention. Often, listening is kindness.
