The International Virtual Institute of Global Changes (IVIG) is a multidisciplinary institute that develops studies and projects in several areas of knowledge, with an emphasis on sustainability. Created in 1999, at the initiative of Faperj and the State Secretariat of Science and Technology of Rio de Janeiro, it operates in a network with programs by Coppe, units from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ) and other research institutions, from Brazil and beyond.
IVIG is part of the Brazilian forum for climate change. It has over 20 years of experience in developing environmental engineering projects in order to establish a better man-nature equilibrium. It has about one hundred researchers in the areas of energy, biofuels, transport, infrastructure, natural resource management, risk control and management and others. Among the researches and projects developed, we highlight those aimed at the production and efficient use of energy, whose objective is to reduce possible environmental impacts and risks of the improper use of technologies.
It operates in projects of national scope, in all biomes, and in the integration between technologies and the country’s socioeconomic development needs. Also international research on topics such as climate change and management of water resources in basins such as the Amazon River and the River Plate.
It interacts with universities, government, companies and institutions and has the collaboration of external researchers, according to the demand for projects and research.
