Glocal Teen Hero (GTH)

In search of Fantastic Teens

Challenges

Teenage years is a transitional phase between childhood and adulthood.  Teenagers are often faced with many stereotypes which may impact their self-confidence, creativity and motivation.  In this age, teenagers tend to have a lot of curiosity about things around them.  Such curiosity at times can develop into creativity.   However, in certain societies and communities, teenagers are often told to focus on school studies and attain good grades.  Due to such pressures, they are not able to follow their passion and are unable to participate in extra curriculum activities which can generate ideas for positive societal change.

Toward a Solution

In order to address the challenge above and empower teenagers to follow their passion and to aspire creativity and positive change, the Glocal Teen Hero (GTH) platform was established. GTH is exclusively for the teenagers that recognizes their initiation, creativity and enthusiasm so as to empower them.  It is a fully funded program exclusively for Nepali Teenagers and is an initiation of Glocal – Khabar, an online news portal based on youth, education and entrepreneurship. The overall purpose of this program is to motivate and encourage teenagers to step out of their comfort zone, be creative and nurture entrepreneurial thinking. It also acts as a platform for them to network with delegates from various industries in Nepal, South Asia and around the world.

Each year, 20 teenagers between the ages of 13-19 are selected for their achievements, initiations or contributions in any field outside of their respective school’s or college’s curriculum. They are selected based on their resume and an essay that documents thier accomplishments followed by an interview from the panel of judges. The fantastic one, is given the “Glocal Teen Hero ” award.  Under this award, the winners are given a chance to make a small documentary where they will share their inspirational stories and aspiration for future. Winners will then be offered job shadowing and much more opportunities for their educations and career growth.

GTH follows the below methodology:

  1. Announcement of call for Applications.
  2. A regional coordinator (Local Representative) will be selected to lead the promotional activities in the respective cities.
  3. Promotion about the program and its procedure to different schools/colleges among the teenagers.
  4. Interaction program will be organized in different schools/colleges inviting principal/teachers, students, parents, government officials and the local press where Glocal members along with winner of Glocal Teen Heroes to share the opportunity information.
  5. Top 20 influential teenagers will be selected and interviewed in Glocal Khabar to share their initiation.
  6. Announcement of Top Six Finalists.
  7. Seven days training will be set to the Top Six Finalists to boost the personal development and widen their network.
  8. Finalists interviews on event day.
  9. Announcement of Winner Glocal Teen Hero.
