New technology selected by UNIDO can benefit people in developing countries

Challenges

As an annual flagship event of UNIDO, the UNIDO Global Call has emerged as a global initiative that seeks to mitigate climate change and contributes to post-pandemic economic recovery, green revival, and the Decade of Action for Sustainable Development. Hosted by the UNIDO ITP Network, it has been honored with the “UN Innovation Award”.

In 2023, UNIDO ITPO Beijing initiated the UNIDO Global Call 2023, focusing on “Clean and Smart Energy for Inclusive and Sustainable Industrial Development”. This initiative featured three strategic categories: Green Hydrogen, Energy Efficiency, and Clean Energy Innovation, in an endeavor to identify projects with proven technical and market viability, replicability, affordability, and accessibility.

Toward a Solution

During GC2023, Mayu (Beijing) New Energy Tech Co., Ltd. (Mayu) won the Grand Prize in the Clean Energy Innovation category for its DC portable atmospheric water generator and large-scale distributed atmospheric water station. In February 2024, ITPO Beijing, China invited Mayu to participate in UNEA-6 in Kenya and the “China-Nigeria Matchmaking Meeting” in Nigeria. ITPO Beijing, China provided suggestions on product positioning and technical improvements based on market demands in China and drought-affected regions in Africa, and recommended Mayu to showcase on multiple international platforms, including the Hangzhou Accelerator exhibition hall, a booth at the 24th CIFIT, and a promotion event at CIFTIS. ITPO Beijing, China also facilitated Mayu’s connections with Aluminum Corporation of China’s African projects and water supply initiatives for hospitals and schools in Kakuma Refugee Camp, Kenya. Preliminary estimates suggest that the projects and initiatives, once implemented, will benefit over 200,000 people and are expected to double revenue.

2025, as Chinese representative or private sectors, Mayu gave speech in UNIDO General Conference in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia on Nov. And Mayu has sighed MOU with Botswana government for more cooperation in Africa in the same year.
