Brazil and FAO – The Path to Cooperation in Latin America and the Caribbean (FAO, 2022)

Brazil has a long history of public policies to eradicate hunger, reduce poverty, promote research and innovation in agriculture and strengthen the institutional framework for rural and urban development. The Brazil-FAO International Cooperation Programme has been one of the most successful initiatives in this regard, allowing the exchange of experiences, the improvement of public policies, and technical and financial support to promote sustainable development in Latin America and the Caribbean..

FAO approved a new Strategic Framework (2022-2031) that seeks to support the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development through the transformation to more efficient, inclusive, resilient and sustainable agri-food systems for better production, better nutrition, a better environment and a better life, leaving no one behind.

There is still a long journey ahead to eliminate hunger and malnutrition, a situation aggravated by the pandemic; to reverse the effects of climate change; and to strengthen family farming, with an emphasis on rural women and youth.

This publication reflects the spirit of international cooperation that has inspired the joint action of Brazil and FAO, presenting the achievements that have improved the lives of hundreds of thousands of families in the region.
